I’m not always a fan of the characters Oprah Winfrey plays in the movies. Yet the one being proposed by Michael Patrick King could connect with me. First of all, King is the creator of “Sex and the City”. Enough said? Unh-unh! The film’s other stars are Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock.
The plot of this comedy will center around these three as they work at a television network much like the Home Shopping Network! All three stars have confirmed that they are onboard.
“I came up with the idea of writing for Meryl, Sandy and Oprah,” said King, “and it became so specific to them that I wanted to be sure I had interest from these ladies.”
“I put it in front of each of them and they all said yes….”
This will be Oprah’s first role since “Beloved.” Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep are Oscar winners, while Oprah was an Oscar nominee for her role in the 1985 hit, “The Color Purple.” Work on the movie won’t begin until the script is ready in January 2011. Shooting is set to begin next spring or summer depending on the ladies’ schedules.
I look forward to it and will keep you posted.
